The Chamber of Deputies adopted yesterday a law that transposes a EU directive in the field of tobacco, and rejected several amendments which were brought to the law prohibiting smoking in enclosed public spaces.

Smoking remains forbidden in all enclosed spaces, as provided by the law approved this spring.

The new law on tobacco products also bans flavored cigarettes within one month after the law is published in the Official Gazette. Menthol cigarettes will be sold until 2019 when they will be forbidden too.

The new bill also brings changes related to the cigarette package look. Graphic images will be displayed on 65% of the package’s surface on both parts, so that the image can’t be hidden. These images need to be changed at the beginning of every year, so that people don’t get used to them.
