Some 50,000 people welcome 2017 at the NYE street party in Bucharest

03 January 2017

Some 50,000 people gathered in George Enescu Square in Bucharest on New Year’s Eve for the special street party organized by the capital’s City Hall.

Several famous local artists entertained the crowd that night, including Delia, Loredana, Stefan Banica, and Voltaj. Moreover, the festive atmosphere was completed by the 400 smart lights that brought to life the historic buildings in the area, namely the Central University Library and the Royal Palace.

The most important moment of the night was the one when everybody welcomed the New Year during an 11-minute firework show for which the organizers prepared four tons of pyrotechnics.

The New Year’s Eve party took place under the Bucharest Selfie concept. Before the party, people with selfie sticks and tablets went to malls, parks, the Christmas Market or other crowded areas to take pictures of Bucharesters. On the New Year’s Eve, these photos were projected on giant screens in George Enescu Square.

Another smaller party also took place in the IOR Park in Bucharest, also known as the Titan Park. The entry to both events was free.
