Strabag group interested in selling JW Marriott hotel in Bucharest

Austrian group Strabag ponders selling the five-star Bucharest hotel JW Marriott, one of the biggest and most famous hotels in the local market.

Both foreign and Romanian investors, including the owners of the Do-It-Yourself retailer Dedeman, have shown interest in the deal, according to market sources cited by local Ziarul Financiar.

No official sale has been launched. The owners and the possible buyers are only discussing on a possible deal. The transaction could exceed EUR 100 million.

The JW Marriott hotel in Bucharest is located next to the Parliament’s Palace. It has 402 rooms, 12 conference halls, and six restaurants and lounges. The main shareholder is Societatea Companiilor Hoteliere Grand SRL (SCHG), the company that owns the hotel, is Austrian constructions group Strabag.

SCHG is the second player on the local hotel market based on revenues. The company posted revenues of RON 118 million (EUR 26 million) in 2015. It was surpassed only by Ana Hotels group, owned by the Romanian investor George Copos.
