Summer season starts earlier in Romania this year

03 March 2017

The resorts at the Romanian seaside and the Danube Delta will welcome the first tourists earlier this year, as the summer season will begin on April 15. Usually, the summer season was starting on May 1 in Romania.

The 2017 summer season will kick off on April 15, with an important Easter tradition in Romania: on that night, the Orthodox Christians will go to Church to light their candles and bring the holy light into their homes. At the seaside, this religious ceremony takes place by the sea.

Next in the program will be the Fed Cup match between Romania and Great Britain, according to Seaside-Danube Delta Association president Corina Martin, cited by local Mediafax.

For the first time, the authorities will also mark the official summer season opening at the Danube Delta. This event is to be organized every year starting 2017.

The traditional May 1 mini-break will start on April 27 this year, with the 20th edition of Sunwaves electronic music festival, organized in Mamaia seaside resort. Some 7,000 foreign tourists from Western Europe are expected to attend the event, as well as thousands Romanians.

In Vama Veche, one of the most popular seaside resorts in Romania, the summer season will open officially on April 29, said Corina Martin. According to her, more than 40,000 tourists are expected to go to the seaside and the Danube Delta in the April 27 – May 1 weekend.
