A third of Romanian firms believe that business is affected by corruption
The percentage of Romanian companies that consider that the local business environment is affected by corruption declined from 39% in 2015 to 31% in 2016, according to a study by EY for Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA).
About 51% of the companies surveyed worldwide still believe there are widespread practices of corruption in their countries, despite sporadic progress made in combating bribery and corruption in the EMEIA. Moreover, 27% of respondents say that bribery is common in their business sector to get contracts.
People aged 25- 34 years, representing 32% of the respondents, showed a more relaxed attitude toward unethical behaviors such as bribery. About 73% of them think that such behavior is justified to help a business survive, compared to 49% of the representatives of the generation aged 45 - 54 years.
The report is based on a survey conducted among 4,100 employees of large companies in 41 countries.
