Uber: Romania is our second market in the region, after Poland
Romania is the second most important market for Uber in Central and Eastern Europe after Poland, and the local development potential is huge, said Nicoleta Schroeder, Uber Romania general manager, cited by local Ziarul Financiar.
The ride-sharing app currently has 250,000 users in Romania, with 200,000 in Bucharest and the rest in Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara and Brasov. It plans to reach one million users in one year or two. Most users are young people aged 18-35.
Last year, Uber saw a growth pace of 300% and expects to keep the same pace in the future.
At the end of 2016, the service became active in Timisoara and Brasov, and will expand to other cities too. “We are looking at Constanta, Ploiesti,” the manager said.
Bucharest deputy mayor Aurelian Badulescu recently said that Uber is an “unauthorized activity”.
