US firm Fitbit hires 200 people at its research center in Bucharest

10 April 2017

Fitness wearables company Fitbit will hire 200 people at its research and development center in Bucharest in the next two years, according to market sources cited by local Ziarul Financiar.

Fitbit will recruit software engineers with different specializations.

The center in Bucharest would not act as a support center, but will be directly involved in the research and development of the company’s new products. The decision to expand the center in Romania has already been made as the company has signed a contract to rent the second floor of the Aviatorilor 8 office building located in the Victoriei Square in Bucharest.

Fitbit is the global leader of the wearable gadgets market, with a turnover of EUR 2 billion last year. It was set up in San Francisco and currently has 1,600 employees at global level.

Fitbit has entered the local market earlier this year after acquiring the Romanian company Vector Watch, for which it paid USD 15 million. As part of the transaction, both the Vector Watch team and its software platform went to Fitbit.
