Wild Carpathia producer ready to start filming fourth episode, hopes to get more donations
Charlie Ottley, the British producer who has made the Wild Carpathia travel documentary series, believes that Romania’s beauty needs to be brought to light and will start filming the fourth and final episode of the series, called White Carpathia, this week. The team behind the series is still seeking funding for the project, as they managed to raise more than three-quarters of the GBP 50,000 needed to cover the production costs.
“We have a Romanian filming team, we have a film crew using drones. We start filming tomorrow (September 29 - e.n.) if the weather allows it and we aim to finish in May," Ottley said in a press conference on Monday. "We want to show that Romania is a beautiful country and that tourists can come and visit all year round. We want to pay attention to culture, traditions, wilderness, ecosystems, forest, and we want to show that this country is rich in terms of natural and cultural heritage,” Ottley added.
He started a crowdfunding campaign on popular platform Kickstarter.com, in mid-August, to finance the making of the White Carpathia episode. So far, the campaign raised about GBP 23,000 of the GBP 50,000 target (by September 29, at noon). Romanian tennis player Horia Tecau, this year's doubles Wimbledon winner, helped raise another EUR 20,000 (GBP 15,000) by auctioning exhibition tennis matches at the Stejarii Country Club. Romanian alpinist Alex Gavan also got involved in the fundraising campaign. Donations can still be made until midnight tonight.
Wild Carpathia is a documentary series that focuses on Romania’s beautiful landscapes, as well as the environmental threat to the wilderness. The first and third parts of the series included interviews with HRH The Prince of Wales while the second part featured interviews with Romania’s Princess Margareta II and canoer Ivan Patzaichin. The series has been broadcasted in 120 countries.
The fourth episode will present the Romanian wilderness during winter, and will feature more wildlife than previous episodes.
The documentary will be filmed in chunks covering October, November, Christmas, March, Easter, and the first week of May. The crew will be shooting once again in Transylvania, Maramures, Bucovina, and Moldavia. The finished programme will be broadcast first on Romanian Public Television before being shown around the world and online via youtube and the Wild Carpathia related sites.
