British band Texas to play first gig in Romania at B’estfest music festival this summer
British alternative rock band Texas will perform for the first time in Romania this summer, during the B’estfest Summer Camp music festival, organized between July 5 and July 7 in Tunari, near Bucharest, according to the organizers.
Texas are from Glasgow, Scotland, formed in 1986 by Johnny McElhone and featuring Sharleen Spiteri (in picture) a the lead vocalist. The band have released a total of seven studio albums, two live albums, two compilations and 31 singles, 11 of them reaching the UK Top 10. With over 25 million albums sold worldwide, Texas have several gold, silver and platinum discs in countries such as UK, France, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany and Norway.
The band’s debut album Southside was released in 1989. However, the international success came with Texas’ third album, White on Blonde, which entered the UK Albums Chart at number one and became their biggest seller. The album has been certified six-times platinum in the UK. The next album released in 1999, The Hush, was also successful, debuting at number one on the UK album charts and getting triple platinum. One year later, in 2000, the band released a greatest hits album, which turned out to be another big seller, debuting again at number one on UK album charts and also being certified six-times platinum.
After releasing two other studio albums, lead singer Sharleen Spiteri launched a solo career, releasing her debut solo album, Melody, in 2008. However, in 2010, after band member Ally McErlaine survived his massive brain aneurysm, the band reunited for the first time since 2005. In May this year, Texas will launch their most recent album The Conversation. More about the band here.
