Drug producer Pfizer appoints Romanian to lead local operations

Romanian Mirela Iordan took over as general manager of pharmaceutical company Pfizer Romania on November 1.

She replaced American Nolan Townsend, who was appointed president for the rare diseases division within the developed markets region. Townsend has been managing Pfizer’s local operations since June 2014.

Mirela Iordan joined the Pfizer team in 2001 and is the first woman who has been appointed to lead the group’s operations in Romania. She was previously Pfizer’s HR director for Romania, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

Before joining the Pfizer team, she was a sales and marketing director for GSK Romania.

Pfizer Romania had a turnover of EUR 126.5 million and a net profit of EUR 5.1 million in 2015. The company had 155 employees, according to data from the Finance Ministry.
