The International Comedy Film Festival in Cluj-Napoca begins on Friday, October 8, with a comedy film starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Bill Nighty, called 'The boat that rocked'. This second edition of the festival will feature 100 films and also a few novelties, the director of the Festival, Dan Sorin, has said. The event will last until October 17.

Romanian-born Oana Lungescu, a journalist of the UK BBC channel, will take over the office of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Spokesperson as from December 1. Oana Lungescu will take over the office from James Appathurai, the incumbent spokesperson for NATO whose term in office expires in late November. Lungescu was chief editor and deputy director of the BBC's Romanian section.

Romanian president Traian Basescu has decided to send the unified pension law back to Parliament for debates on grounds that the retirement age for women should be 63 not 65 as set in the act. The President explained that the Romanian social reality proves women have a second job at home.

The toxic spill from the ecological accident in Hungary earlier this week has already started to affect the ecosystem of the main branch of the Danube river, with the first dead fish already found in the river, according to Tibor Dobson, the regional head of the Disaster Prevention service, quoted by AFP. “I can confirm we have seen sporadic fish loss on the main branch of the Danube,” said Dobson.

Dutch confectionery ingredients producer Zeelandia has recently opened a factory in Iasi, the first phase of a EUR 10 million larger project. The company has so far invested EUR 3 million in this project. It bought a 22,000 sqm land in Miroslava, near Iasi, in 2006. The factory covers 2,000 sqm and new production warehouses will be added, as well as an administrative building, in the later phases of the project.
