Romania's ruling party leader says he borrowed luxury BMW from his son
Liviu Dragnea, the leader of Romania’s ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD) said he borrowed his son car to go to the seaside in the May 1 mini-holiday.
Dragnea posted on Facebook the receipt he paid at the toll bridge at Cernavoda on his way back from the seaside and an opposition MP found that he drove a Series 7 BMW worth about EUR 100,000. Moreover, a check based on the car’s chassis number revealed that the periodical technical inspection (ITP) had expired.
Liviu Dragnea owns a BMW X5, according to his wealth statement, so it was unclear where he got the Series 7 BMW from. Dragnea said his son borrowed him the car as his own car had been badly damaged some time ago with his girlfriend behind the wheel, local News.ro reported.
“I asked him to lend me his car, he did and I thank him for it. I too borrowed him my car when he had none,” Dragnea said.
About the expired ITP, Dragnea said his son should be fined, if this turned out to be true, to learn his lesson.
