Leonardo Badea, the president of the Chamber of Deputies’ budget committee, became the head of the Financial Supervision Authority (ASF) yesterday after the Parliament’s budget committees vote.

The institution’s first deputy president will be Ovidiu Wlassopol, former husband of interim labor minister Lia Olguta Vasilescu, reports local Profit.ro. He is currently counselor for Mircea Ursache, ASF’s vice president in charge of capital markets.

The debates in the Parliament’s budget committees began yesterday afternoon. They were initially programmed for today (June 27). Liviu Dragnea, the president of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), announced Badea as the candidate for the ASF office.

“I want to keep the system’s stability. I want new rules, that are modern, adequate and strong. It’s necessary to have regulations to protect the consumer,” Badea said.

He is a professor at the Targoviste University and his experience in the financial environment is only on at theoretical level. He teaches about the capital markets.
