Novartis Romania, the local subsidiary of Swiss pharma group Novartis and the third-biggest player on the pharmaceutical market in Romania, appointed the Dutch-born Adriaan Kooy as general manager. The announcement was made yesterday.

Kooy will replace Alina Culcea, who has held the office for ten months.

The new GM joined the company in 2002 and has held various management positions in the Netherlands, as well as in the group’s regional center in the EMEA region. Starting 2012, Kooy has headed the pharma division of the company Alcon in Switzerland and Germany.

According to a survey by Cegedim on the local pharma market, Novartis ranked third, with sales of EUR 130.5 million, after Abbvie and Sanofi. Novartis sells its innovative drugs in Romania and also has a factory in the country, at Targu Mures, which produces generic drugs under the Sandoz brand. The group has invested over EUR 50 million in this factory, which exports drugs to over 60 countries.
