(P) The International School for Primary Education - An introduction to a school celebrating its 20th anniversary

20 November 2013

The International School for Primary Education (InSPE) was established by a group of parents for the expatriate community in 1994. At that time it was a small nursery school but since then it has grown into a combined nursery and primary school with over 120 pupils from over 24 different countries. English is the teaching medium in the school, although Modern Foreign Languages are taught to the older pupils as part of the curriculum. Although the number of children in the school has grown, the school has managed to keep the warm family atmosphere that it has always had. InSPE accepts children from 1 – 11 years old and has a teacher to child ratio of 1-7 for primary classes and 1 – 6 or better for nursery.

The school is located in a quiet residential area of the city and the classes are housed in a purpose built facility. The school is found to the north of Bucharest within the Green Lake Residence and is only a 5 minute drive from Baneasa shopping mall and 10 minutes from Arcul de Triumf.

The nursery school caters to children from 1-4 years and follows the EYFS and Scottish curriculum which has objectives that are delivered through the different areas of learning. The children can move freely around the classroom and are encouraged to access all areas of learning where there is a balance between child led and teacher planned activities. At this age important aspects focused on include making friends, offering stimulating play activities as well as providing a warm, safe and secure environment.

The primary school provides a rich education for children aged 4-11. The school follows the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, enriched and adapted to provide a challenging environment which meets the needs of the pupils and supports individual attention. The school believes that creativity, empathy and mutual respect are key components in the development of pupils into successful learners, responsible citizens, effective contributors and confident individuals. The emphasis across the whole school of ‘active learning’ is an essential element of the learning environment and ethos found within the school.

At InSPE care is taken to focus on the individual needs, interests and stage of development of each child and this information is used to plan a challenging and enjoyable experience for each pupil in all areas of learning and development.

The school caters for enrollment throughout the year and more information about the school can be found either by visiting the school’s website – www.inspe.ro - or by contacting the school directly at officereception@inspe.ro
