Prince Charles chats about green schemes with Romania's PM, Environment Minister during museum visit
Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, met Romania's Environment Minister Rovana Plumb briefly and the two reportedly discussed cooperating for environmental projects in Romania, according to Ministry sources, quoted by local news agency Mediafax. The Prince of Wales, well known for his interest in environmental protection, was apparently warmly disposed to the idea of involvement in green schemes in Romania.
The informal chat with Rovana Plumb took place during the Prince's visit to Bucharest's Art Museum, where he also met with the country's PM Victor Ponta. Currently on a private visit to Romania, Prince Charles called in on Bucharest, also meeting President Traian Basescu at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.
The Prince of Wales has had a busy time since arriving on May 30, spending the lion's share of his time in Transylvania, where owns several properties and has long enjoyed walking trips in the beautiful mountainous region of Romania. During his stay the Prince visited Archita, a small town in Mures County, where the Prince’s foundation in Romania will move its office. There he met with the leader of the local county council to discuss the audit and cataloging of local traditions, as well as with health professionals to talk about setting up a local clinic in the area, according to Mediafax.
In the village of Valea Zălanului, Prince Charles met up with the local authorities of Covasna County, with whom he talked about, among other things, the development of the area and its regional products.
On Thursday, May 30, the Prince arrived by a private charter flight to Targu Mures airport, where the airport manager and representatives of the British Embassy to Romania greeted him. He then went to Micloşoara in Covasna county, to the residence of Count Kalnoky Tibor, where he usually spends time when in Romania.
The village of Viscri, where the prince also owns several guest houses, was also included in the visit schedule.
Prince Charles is a supporter of Romania and has recently appeared in a documentary called Wild Carpathia. During the interview, the Prince of Wales spoke of his great interest in Transylvania.
The Prince, who has been visiting Romania regularly since 1997, started buying properties in rural Romania, restoring them and turning them into guesthouses. The property at Viscri is one of the best known.
