RO Govt. to help employees of companies hit by crisis

07 April 2022

The Romanian Government will pass a bill to help the employees of the companies that are forced to suspend or reduce their activity due to the rising energy prices or the war in Ukraine, prime minister Nicolae Ciuca confirmed, News.ro reported.

Thus, the employees made redundant on a temporary basis will be disbursed from the state budget 75% of their gross wage, the same way they were supported during the pandemic. The subsidy is capped at 75% of the average gross wage.

The sectors where the strongest impact of the war is expected are the metallurgical industry, the automotive industry and the furniture industry. The authorities expect that up to 30,000 people will be affected. Most of the 22,000 employees in metallurgy are at risk, as well as 5,000 of the 200,000 workers in the automotive industry and 1,000 employees in furniture production.
