Romanian appointed in EC’s think tank management

04 May 2017

Mihnea Motoc, the former Romanian Defense Minister in 2016, was appointed in the management of the European Political Strategy Centre, the European Commission's internal think tank.

“I'm going to formulate policy recommendations on defense policy to President Juncker," Motoc yesterday wrote on his Facebook page. Jean-Claude Juncker is the President of the European Commission.

Mihnea Motoc will work closely with Federica Mogherini, the current High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and European Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen. He said that it’s important that this position, related to the European defense, “one of the most sensitive political areas”, is entrusted to a Romanian.

Mihnea Motoc was Defense Minister in the Ciolos Government last year. He was previously the Ambassador of Romania to the UK.

Motoc also led the Romanian Representation to the European Commission for seven years, between 2008 and 2015.
