Romanian Marius Popescu (pictured), the CEO of life insurer and asset manager NN Romania, was appointed CEO of NN Turkey starting April 1 2017, the company announced.

Popescu has been working for NN in Romania for the past 12 years, and held various management roles, including those of CEO of NN Investment Partners and CEO of NN Pensii. He was appointed CEO of NN Romania in 2013.

The new CEO of NN Romania will be announced in the coming period. Until then, Mihai Muntean, the current Chief Sales Officer of NN Romania, will take on as interim CEO.

“Starting April, Marius will join NN Hayat ve Emeklilik with a mandate to develop, with the help of his extensive experience, the insurance and optional pensions operations in Turkey, constantly improving the customers’ experience, in line with our global strategy. His expertise in the insurance field, his entrepreneurial spirit, and the ability to reach objectives recommend him as the perfect choice for our development activity in Turkey,” said Robin Spencer, CEO International Insurance and member of the NN Group management board.

NN Asigurari de Viata is the biggest life insurance company in Romania. The company recorded gross written premiums of EUR 107 million and a market share of 41%, on the life insurance segment, in the first nine months of 2016

In August 2016, NN Pensii managed the pensions of about 1.9 million Romanians, representing 28.5% of the total number of participants in mandatory private pension funds. Its assets under management reached some EUR 2.25 billion at the end of June 2016, according to data from the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF).
