25 April 2013

After causing concern at a European level last summer because of the internal political scandals, Romania is trying to fix its image in front of EU officials. Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta (in picture), who this week joined the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, assured EU officials Romania is currently a stable and predictable country and that there is an agreement between the PM and the president that is being respected.

“I am here also to say that I think Romania, which last year was seen as unstable, is now a very stable and predictable country in the region and we think it is our duty to cooperate with the European Council and the European Commission in finding the best solution to strengthen democracy, the rule of law and human rights across all regions,” said the Romanian PM.

He also added the Romanian Government is committed to learn from the mistakes of the past, speaking of the cooperation between the PM and the President. The PM also mentioned the idea of a letter, which representatives of all political parties, both in the Government and the opposition, are signing to ensure Romania will be able to solve all its institutional and political problems, and pledging they will be able to cooperate for the good of the country.
