Romania's auto market speeds up by 16.5%

20 May 2015

The auto market, which includes cars and commercial vehicles, increased in the first four months of 2015 by 16.5% year-on-year.

The car deliveries went up by 15.7%, according to the Association of Car Makers and Importers of Romania (APIA).

Companies had an 88% share in car sales. However, individuals may start buying more cars, as a new yearly edition of the Cash-for-Bangers program “Rabla” kicked off at the end of April.

The program allows people who own old cars to scrap the vehicles and receive in exchange vouchers that can be used when buying a new car. The program’s effect will be visible in 2 to 3 months, reads an APIA press release.

In April, Romania produced 37,323 cars, up 8% year-on-year.
