Sandu Matei, one of the most active anti-government protesters in Romania, went to the General Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday, September 4, to file a criminal complaint against Darius Valcov, an advisor of prime minister Viorica Dancila.

He also claims a damage of EUR 1 million and says he would use the money to build an asylum for the elderly, local Mediafax reported.

Matei decided to file the complaint after Valcov shared his medical record on Facebook, which allegedly showed that he suffers from personality disorders. Valcov also called the protester “deranged”.

Valcov’s actions triggered many reactions. For example, while Ionel Danca, the spokesman of opposition party PNL, said Valcov must resign, Liviu Dragnea, the head of the ruling Social Democratic Party (PSD), said Darius Valcov shouldn’t resign amid this scandal, and added that this was an “unfortunate event.”

“From what I understand, it was posted on the Facebook page, a private post. Yes, it can be an unhappy gesture, but I do not think he has to resign or be dismissed from his position. It is my point of view,” Dragnea said, according to local News.ro.

Meanwhile, Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, the president of PSD’s junior coalition ALDE, criticized Darius Valcov, saying that what he did “is not normal.”
