Over 11,500 people work for H&M in 30 factories in Romania
Swedish fashion group H&M has eleven suppliers in Romania that produce clothing for the Swedish brand in their own factories or in the subcontractors’ production units.
Most of these plants are located in the south and east of the country, Romania’s poorest regions, reports local Ziarul Financiar. Out of a total of 30 factories, a third are in Vrancea and six are in Buzau.
The plants employ 11,500 people and have a cumulated turnover of RON 900 million (EUR 200 million). H&M is one of the few retailers that publish their list of suppliers broken down by country.
The automotive and IT companies have oriented to other regions than the east of Romania, which is affected by the lack of infrastructure and the higher distance to the west. This region was thus left to garment factories, where salaries are most of the times below the average in the country.
