The number of tourists who stayed in Romanian hotels and guesthouses rose by 12.7% in the first five months of the year over the same period in 2015, reaching over 3.4 million, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

There were about 2.3 million Romanian tourists, accounting for about 75.6% of all tourists, whereas foreign tourists totaled 735,400. Most foreign tourists came from Europe (75.1%), and the majority of them were from EU countries.

Most foreigners were from Germany (90,100), followed by Italy (87,900), and Israel (77,800).

The number of overnight stays in Romania’s hotels and guesthouses amounted to 7 million during this period, up 10.6% over the first five months of 2015.
