90 designers featured at Bucharest contemporary jewelry fair this weekend

09 May 2017

Autor, the international contemporary jewelry fair taking place in Bucharest, will feature 90 designers from 5 continents at its upcoming 16th edition. The event takes place on May 13 and May 14 at the Grand Hotel du Boulevard.

Designers from all over the world, including Japan, Argentina, the US, Finland, Canada, Israel, Peru, Columbia or Australia will present their collections at the fair. The 90 designers have been selected out of 190 applicants and they stand for the most extended jewelry selection ever showcased at the fair.

The jury included Sofia Björkman, a jewelry designer and founder of Gallery Platina in Stockholm; Doris Maninger, a director of Alchimia Jewelry School in Florence; Lucia Massei, a director of Alchimia Jewelry School in Florence; Ruudt Peters, an artist and professor at Opere Summer School in The Netherlands; Paulo Ribeiro, founder and director of Joya Barcelona; and Dan Pierșinaru, the founder and director of Autor.

Mona Velciov is a Focus Designer at this edition, with her “Deforested” collection. The collection is about the deforestation of the last virgin forests in Europe, and is mean to be a reaction and a statement.

Several awards will be offered at the fair to several designers, including the Autor Awesome Award for the most promising artist participating in the fair; the Assamblage Award consisting of a course offered by Assamblage – the Contemporary Jewelry School to an emerging designer; and the Krama Institute Award – a jewelry course at the Krama Jewelry Institute in Athens. The public will also be able to vote for their favorite designer. A novelty at this edition is the Athens Jewelry Week Award, given in the form of an invitation to participate at the event.
