Romanian use twice more sugar a year than European average
A Romanian consumes on average 30 kg of sugar annually, almost double compared to the European average of 16 kg. This explains the increase in the number of diabetes cases in children and the fact that half of Romania’s population is obese, according to Romanian nutritionist Lygia Alexandrescu, reports local Mediafax.
Doctors present at a conference organized on the World Food Day showed that Romanians have unhealthy habits: they consume sugar and fried foods, forget to drink water and they smoke. The daily stress and chronic fatigue also cause hormonal unbalances.
“Unfortunately, our country has the highest mortality caused by cancer undetected on time and in most cases, the disease is caused by unhealthy habits. Therefore, on the long term, the best results in public health would be obtained if the children were convinced that it is better for them to eat grapes than chocolate,” said Alexandrescu, cited by Mediafax.
