Romanian runner sets new world record
Romanian runner Adriana Istrate, 33, managed to finish seven marathons and seven ultra-marathons on all seven continents in less than ten months, thus setting a new world record. She beat the performance of Pakistani Ziyad Tariq Rahim, reports local Mediafax.
She recently finished the 70-kilometer Vietnam Mountain Marathon. She covered the distance in 18 hours.
“I made it! The race number 14 and the last of the 777 project is now complete! The 70-km Vietnam Mountain Marathon, of which I ran just some 10 km, I started at 04:00 and finished at 22:00, 18 hours of anguish of which 14 hours with my feet in the mud,” Istrate said in a Facebook post.
The seven races Adriana Istrate attended in the 10 months are: Antarctic Ice Marathon -100 km and King George Island Penguin Marathon in Antarctica, Chile Punta Arenas Southern Marathon and Chile Punta Arenas Ultra - 50 km in South America, Sahara Desert Marathon and Cape Town Two Oceans Ultra - 56 km in Africa, Eco Trail de Paris - 50 km and Maraton International Chisinau in Europe, Christchurch Marathon and Australia Ultra - 50 km in Australia, USA Pollock Pines Run The Sly - 50 km and USA Los Angeles Rocking Summer Marathon in North America, and Singapore Marathon and Vietnam Mountain Marathon - 70 km in Asia.
Adriana Istrate started running in 2013 and says she was inspired by Adrian Rosu, the first Romanian to finish seven marathons and seven ultra-marathons on seven continents.
Andrei Rosu recently finished the Arc to Arch Challenge, the hardest triathlon in the world, during which he also became the first Romanian to swim the English Channel.
