AFP: Romanian musicians become worldwide dance floor stars
A recent analysis by AFP places the Romanian music scene in the spotlight, mentioning several artists from Romania, who have taken over the international music scene with their songs and found their way up in the international charts.
The article, titled 'Romanian "sound" takes over dance music scene', mentions Edward Maya (in picture, we also wrote about him here) and Inna (we also wrote about her here), 'now worldwide dance floor stars -- and the pride and joy of this former communist country stuck in an economic crisis and still fighting a reputation abroad as corrupt and poor,', reads the AFP article.
"Romanian dance music is very successful around the world at the moment with big hits in Europe and the US," Eelko van Kooten, director of one of the major dance labels, Dutch-based Spinnin'Records, told AFP.
In May, Edward Maya won the American Billboard Award for "top dance song" of the year for "Stereo Love", after competing in a line-up that included megastar Lady Gaga.
Inna made her own quick rise to the top and can boast sales of nearly two million singles worldwide, notably in the United States and Britain, according to AFP.
"Yes, sometimes we are proud that from here, a country sometimes described as Third World, we are trend setters in Europe and in the US", Romanian trio Play & Win has said, quoted by AFP.
