After EU scolding on air pollution, Bucharest municipality decides streets will be cleaned with water, detergent every night
Romanian capital Bucharest is on its way to becoming a cleaner city after the municipality decided to add street cleaning services every night. The decision was triggered by the high level of dust in the air.
Companies which have sanitation contracts with Bucharest's six districts will also clean the streets with water and detergent every night, between 22,00 and 06:00. So far, this type of cleaning was only being done on certain occasions and not on a regular schedule.
The measures have been taken after the European Commission warned Romania of the high level of pollution of the air in its capital, especially dust.
