Alcohol consumption among young Romanians, very high
Alcohol consumption among minors is very high, as Romanians start drinking at 14 on average, said Florin Radulescu, president of the Romania Spirits Association.
According to UNICEF, about 42% of young people aged 10-12 tried alcohol at least once in 2013. The percentage among boys reaches 57%, reports local Agerpres.
About 10% of those interviewed said they had started drinking before they were 14, and over 30% of the respondents between 15 and 19.
Minors have limited knowledge about the effects that alcohol has on their physical and mental health and consider that alcohol helps them relax and feel integrated.
