26 March 2018

Alexandrion group, the leader of the spirits market in Romania, has signed an agreement to take over British group Halewood’s local wine business. The transaction should be finalized in the next three months, according to Alexandrion group representatives.

“With this acquisition, Alexandrion Group will become one of the most powerful and competitive players on the Romania market,” said Nawaf Salameh, the group’s CEO.

“We are very selective with the businesses we include in our portfolio and we trust this decision will be welcomed by our consumers,” he added.

Halewood is one of the top 10 local wine producers and the second-biggest wine exporter. The group owns wine production facilities in the Dealu Mare area (Tohani, Urlati), near Sebes in Transylvania, and Cernavoda-Murfatlar in Dobrogea.

The group has four companies which produce grapes and wine and distribute the products on the local market and export. The group’s biggest company is Cramele Halewood, in charge of the wine production, which had a turnover of EUR 8.4 million in 2016.

Alexandrion group owns two distilleries in Romania, in Ploiesti and Radauti. Alexandrion Group Romania had a turnover of EUR 33.3 million and a net profit of EUR 4.3 million in 2016.
