Almost 14,300 companies doing business in Romania since 1990
Nearly 14,300 of the local companies that were established right after the Romanian Revolution in 1989 still operate today.
These include the appliance producer Electrolux, the heavy equipment producer Doosan IMGB, the paper factory Celhart Donaris, and the Severnav shipyard, according to an analysis conducted by KeysFin. They were set up between 1990 and 1991.
Most of the 14,300 companies are from Bucharest, namely 2,401. They have hired over 89,000 employees during this period.
The North-West region comes next, with 2,184 firms that have employed 45,000. In the Center region, about 2,145 companies have survived from the early years of democracy, with 47,000 employees. In the West region, only 1,484 companies are still left, with 24,000 employees.
Most of the businesses that have survived are micro enterprises (10,760), followed by small firms (almost 2,500), medium companies (778), and only 252 big companies.
