Almost 150,000 liters of mineral water taken off shelves after Romanian Consumer Protection inspection

06 May 2014

Update: The mineral water was sold in Lidl stores. In a statement, the retailer said: " We withdrew the 2-liter Saguaro mineral water supplied by one of our producers. The reason for the withdrawal was mislabeling the description of the water bottling source. We can confirm, through analysis reports provided by the producer, that the 2-liter Saguaro mineral water has no quality problems," reports local Digi24.

Almost 150,000 liters of mineral water were withdrawn from the market after inspections conducted by the National Authority for Consumer Protection ANPC.

During the checks, inspectors found that a chain of stores had on sale bottled mineral water from a spring that was not on the list of the National Authority for Mineral Resources.

According to the president of ANPC, Marius Dunca, quoted by local Mediafax, after a complaint coming from a consumer, the inspectors found that the network of stores was selling mineral water coming from F4 Rosu spring, which is not on the list of mineral waters approved to be sold.

During inspections, ANPC representatives ordered the withdrawal from sale of over 101,000 liters of mineral water. Representatives of the stores also withdrew another 45,000 liters of mineral water from shelves, at their own initiative, reports Mediafax.
