Romanians bought around 7 million cinema tickets last year, one third more than in 2009, which made it the biggest increase pace in the European Union. In 2009, 5.3 million cinema tickets were sold in Romania, while 6.8 million were sold last year, according to the National Cinema Center in Romania. The average price paid for a cinema ticket was of RON 16.

Despite the rapid increase in the number of sold movie tickets in Romania, the volume still lays behind the rest of Europe. 200 million tickets were sold in France last year and 120 million in Italy, according to European Audiovisual Observatory. In Hungary, 10 million cinema tickets were sold in 2010.
