Romanian game developer merges with independent studio in Mexico
Romanian game developer Amber has merged with Guadalajara-based game and mobile app developer KaraOkulta, Economica.net reported.
The move is meant to strengthen Amber’s presence in Mexico after the company opened an office there at the beginning of the year.
KaraOkulta worked with Amber to develop the game Toy Blitz, at the end of 2019. After a successful partnership, the two companies decided to join forces. KaraOkulta will join Amber Mexico in the Ciudad Creativa Digital hub, regarded as Mexico’s Silicon Valley.
“We are always looking for dedicated partners, and KaraOkulta showed at the end of last year that it has a very talented team. The merger consolidates Amber Mexico’s game development capacities and is a step forward in our strategy to create a strong game development ecosystem in Guadalajara,” Mihai Pohonțu, CEO of Amber, said.
Amber has started recruiting for the new studio and plans to hire 100 by the end of the year.
Amber is the largest independent game development company in Romania. Last year, it reported a turnover of RON 57.85 million (EUR 11.9 million). It employs more than 500 people. The company developed games such as Rumble Heroes, Link Twin, and Cinderella Free Fall, and has contributed to the development of titles such as Sky: Children of Light or Gorogoa.
KaraOkulta specializes in video games, app development, and community crowd publishing, among others. It developed games such as Trigger Runners, Soulgate, Paper Brawlers, and Flightout.
