American actor to appear in new Romanian sitcom based on UK comedy
US actor James Longshore (in picture), who was featured by Romania Insider's expat profiles, is to make his debut on Romanian television with a guest part in sitcom Tanti Florica. PROTv's new comedy is based on the popular UK series Mrs. Brown's Boys, which won a BAFTA award. It's a somewhat unusual format for Romania and brings a different style of situational comedy to local television.
Tanti Florica is played by Florin Calinescu, while James Longshore plays an enthusiastic American missionary trying convert Florica. It was something of a trial by fire of the US actor's language skills, “I speak entirely in Romanian,” he said. At least the American speaking Romanian accent should be pretty authentic. Tanti Florica airs on Wednesdays at 21:30 on PROTv. The episode starring the American actor will be aired on November 7.
James Longshore is an American actor and dialogue coach, originally from New York, who now lives in Romania. He also runs acting classes for Romanian actors, focusing on acting in English, getting work and and film industry insider tips.
