American and Romanian volunteers clean up beaches in Mamaia seaside resort
Dean Thompson, the Chargé d'affaires ad interim of the US Embassy to Romania, together with some 300 American and Romanian volunteers will mark the Coastal Cleanup Day by cleaning the beaches in Mamaia seaside resort. The event will take place on Saturday, September 26, between 10:00 and 13:00.
Constanta residents and representatives of local authorities, athletes, students from Mircea cel Batran College and Farul Constanta Sports Club, as well as representatives of American and Romanian armed forces and employees of the US Embassy will take part in the cleanup event, reports local Mediafax.
The International Coastal Cleanup Day is celebrated on September 19 and warns about the garbage thrown in seas and oceans, which affects the flora and the fauna, as well as people’s health.
A similar event was also organized last year, on September 27, in Navodari. Some 100 volunteers, including Dean Thompson took part in the cleanup action.
