American Independent Film Festival in Bucharest: Section focuses on work of Benh Zeitlin
The fourth edition of the American Independent Film Festival takes place this year between September 14 and September 20, in several venues in Bucharest.
The festival is usually organized in spring but was pushed to September because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The event showcases a selection of independent productions presented at festivals such as Sundance, Cannes, New York, Tribeca, Telluride, Venice, or Toronto. It also hosts online meetings with established and young directors.
The festival will have this year a special section dedicated to filmmaker Benh Zeitlin, whose debut film, Beasts of the Southern Wild, received the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance festival in 2012. The film was also awarded the Camera d’Or for best debut at the Cannes festival, and received four Oscar nominations. His second feature is Wendy, a reinterpretation of the Peter Pan story.
The screenings of his films will be followed by two online meetings with the director, a Q&A session on September 18, and an online masterclass scheduled for September 19.
The screenings will take place at the National Museum of Art of Romania (MNAR), the Romanian Peasant Museum Cinema (outdoor), Deschis Gastrobar, Mercato Kultur, Militari Shopping drive-in cinema, and Event Park Snagov.
The program will be updated here.
