American International School of Bucharest invests EUR 6.5 mln in preschool center

23 November 2016

The American International School of Bucharest (AISB) has started the construction of an early education center for preschool children aged 2 to 5. The investment amounts to EUR 6.5 million and will be completed next summer.

About 100 children aged 2 to 5 from 39 countries are currently enrolled at the American International School of Bucharest. The high demand on this age segment has contributed to the decision to build a preschool center.

The new preschool education center will be built on an area of 3,800 sqm and will have 20 classrooms, interior gardens, libraries for various ages, common work spaces, a music and dance hall, a gym, kitchen, canteen, medical cabinet, changing and rest spaces, a digital workshop, and playgrounds. Its capacity amounts to 190 children.

“Building a center destined exclusively to our youngest students was necessary to adapt the learning environment to their needs. We are aware that this center will be their first experience in an education institution and that’s why we want to provide them a dynamic environment, where we combine games and learning,” said Robert Brindley, headmaster of AISB.

AISB started the 2016-2017 school year with 810 students, 242 of whom attend secondary school. The students come from 56 countries, with the top 5 nationalities being Romanian (32%), American (13%), Israeli (5%), German (4%), and Turkish (4%).

The tuition fees for this school year range between EUR 6,000 and EUR 18,000. AISB estimates EUR 16 million revenues in the current school year.

AISB is the oldest and biggest international school in Bucharest. It was founded in 1962 by the U.S. Embassy. The school currently operates in a 10-hectare campus in Northern Bucharest, which was inaugurated in 2001.
