24 October 2011

A Romanian and an American have rented the Bran castle in Romania for their Dracula-inspired wedding. The religious ceremony was performed on Saturday in one of the castle's rooms and the party in a tent in the castle's yard.

Simona and Arlyn Wood's wedding was the first private event organized in the castle. Renting the castle can start from EUR 4,000 and reach EUR 18,000 excluding VAT.

The Bran Castle is famous among tourists to Romania due to the connection it received to Bram Stocker's Dracula. It is a medieval castle in the Brasov county, but the castle has nothing to do with Romanian king Vlad Tepes, who inspired the Dracula story. Early visitors have thought it resembled to the castle depicted by Bram Stocker in his book and this is how the Bran castle got its fame.

Dracula – as known today – represents the result of the intersection of some real historical events, legendary, related to the reign of Vald Ţepes – Dracula, of mentions of some chroniclers of those times, aiming to put the great voivode in a bad light, amplified in the upcoming centuries by the association with the character of fiction novel "Dracula", issued in England in 1897, written by the Irish writer Bram Stocker.
