Romania's tax agency brings 12.4% higher budget revenues in first four months

18 May 2018

Romania’s tax agency ANAF collected budget revenues worth RON 75.58 billion (EUR 16.2 billion) in the first four months of 2018, up by 12.4% compared to the same period of last year.

The collected revenues were also 1.1% higher than the programmed level for this period, ANAF announced on Thursday, May 17.

The figures presented by ANAF don’t include the revenues from the clawback tax and those from “swap” operations to ensure the comparability to the programmed levels included in the budget law, according to the tax agency’s representatives.

ANAF released this data after controversies in recent weeks related to the level of budget revenues and collected taxes. President Klaus Iohannis asked for prime minister Viorica Dancila’s resignation earlier this month invoking the Government’s poor budget execution in the first quarter. The president said the collected budget revenues did not match the country’s economic growth.
