Young Romanian-born conductor named new music director of Canadian orchestra
Romanian-born conductor Andrei Feher, 26, was appointed music director of Canadian Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra. He will take over the new position in August this year.
Andrei Feher was assistant to conductor Fabien Gabel at the Québec Symphony Orchestra and to conductor Paavo Järvi at the Paris Orchestra, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with other famous conductors such as Zubin Mehta or Valery Gergiev.
In 2013, he conducted the final concert of the Young Prague festival, and in 2014 he took the place of famous conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin at a concert of the Métropolitan Orchestra in Montreal, which opened his series of collaborations with this orchestra. In the 2015-2016 season he was invited once again to conduct the Québec Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitain Orchestra and the Paris Orchestra.
The 2016-2017 season marked the debut of conductor Andrei Feher at the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Transylvania State Philharmonic in Cluj Napoca, and the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his collaborations with these ensembles, Andrei Feher was invited to conduct the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Les Violons du Roy, the National Orchestra d'Île de France in the 2017-2018 season.
On June 20, Andrei Feher is invited to Sala Radio in Bucharest to conduct the closing concert of the Radio Chamber Orchestra's season. Lithuanian cellist Mindaugas Bačkus will also perform on the Sala Radio stage.
