Another failure for Romania’s Comarnic-Brasov highway project
Romania’s National Highways Company CNADNR is ready to give up building the Comarnic-Brasov highway through public-private partnership, according to sources, cited by local Digi24.
The joint venture of French group Vinci, Austrian company Strabag and Greek group Aktor should have built the 60-km highway. However, the consortium didn’t manage to convince international financial groups such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank to finance the project.
The cost to build the highway would amount to EUR 1.8 billion, whereas the costs to finance and maintain the highway for 26 years would bring the total amount to EUR 8.4 billion.
The state now considers starting to build the highway with its own funds.
This is the third time the state fails to move forward with the Comarnic-Brasov highway project.
