Another Romanian senator goes to prison

11 November 2016

Romanian senator Marius Isaila was sentenced yesterday to five years and four months in prison for influence peddling and abetting forgery of private documents.

The decision made by the magistrates of the High Court of Cassation and Justice is final.

The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) sent Marius Isaila to court in July last year. The prosecutors charged him with influence peddling.

According to prosecutors, the senator asked a company owner to pay him some EUR 200,000 in exchange for using his influence to prevent a control of the tax agency ANAF at that company.
