Romanian anti-fraud inspectors find EUR 21.8 mln damage in healthcare

21 December 2017

Romanian anti-fraud inspectors have identified a network of 25 companies in the healthcare sector that have caused a total damage of over RON 101 million (EUR 21.8 million) to the state budget.

These companies have artificially diminished their taxable base and avoided paying the corporate tax and the VAT related to the sale of goods and medical services to various state hospitals, according to Romania’s Tax Agency (ANAF). They have artificially increased their expenses by registering fictitious operations.

Both local and foreign companies were part of this group. The anti-fraud inspectors have notified the prosecutors about this network of companies.
