Huge number of applications for Bucharest City Hall’s free bike acquisition vouchers

26 July 2017

The Bucharest City Hall decided on Tuesday to suspend the registration process for its recent “Cyclists in Bucharest” bike acquisition vouchers program, after receiving 4,136 applications at its Public Relations Center and 14,500 requests by e-mail in just two days.

The municipality will suspend the process until it processes all the requests and checks if there are multiple applications, according to the Bucharest City Hall. Many people who applied for the program submitted multiple forms, although a person can’t receive more than one voucher.

The Bucharest City Hall will give 5,000 vouchers worth RON 500 (EUR 109.5) each, that can be used to buy bikes. The municipality could supplement the number of vouchers for this year, it announced.

The program will be resumed next year. Those who applied for a voucher and won’t get one will remain in the authorities’ database for the next grant period.

The City Hall initially announced that people applying to the program need to submit the registration form at its Public Relations Center. Several hours later, the City Hall said that it would also receive requests by e-mail.
