Romanian impressionism auction to sell masterpieces valued at up to EUR 150,000
An auction dedicated to Romanian Impressionism and Post-Impressionism with over 150 artworks by artists such as Nicolae Tonitza, Francisc Sirato, Ion Tuculescu, Samuel Mutzner and others, will be held on September 25 at the Romanian Athenaeum, Bucharest.
Nicolae Tonitza works at the auction value over EUR 300,000. A Tonitza painting holds the Romanian record price for artwork sold at auction in the country (the painting “In iatac” sold for EUR 290,000 in 2011). Local auction house Artmark will organize the sale.
One of the four paintings is “Nud cu spatele” (Nude with back -oil on board, 50 × 40 cm, in picture), and is the centerpiece of the auction, with an estimated value between EUR 80,000 to 150,000. The artwork was in the Group Exhibition Tonitza-Sirato-Han, in 1935, in Bucharest, and is mentioned in numerous exhibition catalogs. A similar Tonitza nude 'Afize' sold for EUR 160,000 at Artmark's Orientalism auction in 2011.
From Tuesday, September 11, the masterpieces can be viewed at Artmark's headquarters in the Cesianu-Racovita Palace until September 24, when the art works will go to the Romanian Athenaeum for auction on September 25.
