It's been a while since we discovered a new Romanian song that inspired us, but lately we've been hearing some beats that seemed worthy of attention, so we had to choose between a couple of them. The feel good winners this week were Smiley and Alex Velea with their new song Dincolo de cuvinte (translated as 'beyond words').

The song is in Romanian and has a lot of the 'we've made it but we still remember where we come from' story. Plus, its beat is catchy, and the chorus lyrics are quite timely: Cateodata mai rad, cateodata mai plang, cateodata constat ca banii nu-mi ajung, Dar viata merge inainte, Viata se simte, Noi o traim dincolo de cuvinte (In an approximate translation: Sometimes I laugh, Sometimes I cry, Sometimes I find money's not enough, But life goes on, Life has to be felt, We live it beyond words).

This is not Smiley and Alex Velea's first project together, they had another song – which coincidentally we also featured in this column – Cai verzi pe pereti.

Smiley, by his real name Andrei Tiberiu Maria (in picture), is a Romanian singer, song writer, entertainer and producer who has been in the public eye both as part of the band Simplu and as a solo artist. His production company is called HaHaHa Production.

Alex Velea is a dance music singer in Romania, who launched his first album in 2006, Yamasha. In 2009, Alex Velea entered Radio Killer’s production team, which proved successful in Romania and abroad.
