The investments of Austrian companies in Romania totalled EUR 10.9 billion, representing 18.5% of total foreign direct investments in the country, according to Rudolf Lukavsky, Commercial Counsellor at the Austrian Embassy in Bucharest.

“Over 1,000 Austrian investors are active in Romania, through 6,794 Austrian-owned companies, which total over 100,000 employees, taking into account the jobs created directly,” said Lukavsky, cited by local Agerpres.

The Austrian-owned companies are active in several economic fields, from mineral resources to industry, agriculture, financial services and insurance, automotive, oil and gas sector.

According to the official, Romania is attractive for Austrian investors because of the market size – the largest in the region, the human capital, cultural proximity and the multitude of projects and opportunities.
