Average household monthly income reaches EUR 575 in Romania

The average monthly income of a Romanian household amounted to EUR 575 in the first quarter of the year, or EUR 215 per person, some 4% higher than in the same period of 2014.

Expenditures totaled EUR 505 per household and EUR 189.6 per person, an increase of only 1.7% compared to the first quarter of 2014, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS).

Salaries and related revenues accounted for over 53% of all household revenues. Social protection (pensions, unemployment benefits, child allowances and others) generated over a quarter (25.2%) of the average household income. In-kind income, mostly related to agriculture, stood for 14.2%. The remaining 7.3% came from other sources, such as agriculture, independent activities, and property.

Almost three-quarters (73%) of the household spending went to consumption, 18.6% went on various taxes, and 5% went into production (in agriculture).

The investment expenditure, such as buying or building apartments, buying plots or shares, had a very small share in a household’s total expenses, namely 0.3%.
